Techniques

  • Bottom Rig
  • Deep Jigging

Where and When

  • April to October at 100-400 m in fjord basins and at the foot of slopes.
  • It prefers deep holes where current is weak.

Method

  • A heavy bottom rig with whole dead bait (herring, mackerel, squid) is most effective.
  • If you jig, present it very slowly, almost static.
  • The mouth is wide, so a 6/0-8/0 single hook suits.
  • Lift slowly; a fish brought up fast from depth cannot be saved, so leave it deep if you will not keep it.
